Neil Pilling BEng CEng PhD MIET Dipl RMST
Managing Director
As MD, Neil has day to day responsibility for the operations of the Company and ultimate responsibility for the delivery of the service excellence our customers expect.
Neil has an engineering degree and PhD in electrical power systems, and a professional Health and Safety qualification centered on Risk Management. He was responsible for Earthing Policy at National Grid for several years, representing them on National and International standards bodies, work which continues now with ERM.
Neil makes his availability to customers a priority and is always ready to discuss individual companies’ requirements or issues.
Paul Jones BEng PhD MIET
Senior Engineer
Paul has a degree and a PhD from Cardiff University. His research examined earth-impedance measurements at large area substations, and he developed the UK’s first earth-impedance measurement system.
He then completed a graduate training scheme with National Grid and furthered his experience in substation earthing.
Paul has been with ERM since formation and is our Technical Manager. His responsibilities include the design and computer simulation of earthing systems, and fault current distribution. Paul is the UK expert in the analysis of earth-impedance measurements, and has completed earthing-projects within the gas, petro-chemical and electrified-railway industries.
Matthew Taylor BEng PhD MIET CEng
Senior Engineer
Matthew completed an electrical engineering degree and PhD in Electrical Earthing at Cardiff University, including a sandwich year with SWALEC (now WPD). Matthew has contributed to UK and International communities through the publication of his research on the earthing of transmission lines and mobile phone base stations and has also conducted research for the Energy Networks Association ER G78 OSG working group.
A Chartered Engineer, Matthew has 12 years experience across a diverse range of electrical earthing projects and is the UK expert in soil resistivity analysis for electrical earthing applications. Working with ERM since 2005, he is our Site Team Manager, overseeing our daily operations and is responsible for delivering our earthing assessments and reports. Matthew is also our technical specialist for Pipeline Interference Studies.
Brian Baker BSc CEng MIET
Brian has worked in the electricity industry for the last 23 years, much of that time with National Grid. His expertise is in the field of overhead line optical fibre systems and substation telecommunications. Through his work he has built up experience in earthing, overhead line engineering, substation power and line isolation in relation to telecommunications requirements on copper circuits at hot sites. Brian has sat as the UK representative on CENELEC and CIGRE committees and is currently the secretary to the Energy Networks Association working group on optical fibre cable systems
