Managing Director

As MD, Neil has day to day responsibility for the operations of the Company and ultimate responsibility for the delivery of the service excellence our customers expect.

Neil was responsible for Earthing Policy within National Grid, where he spent 11 years, and is pleased that ERM continues to work closely with National Grid on many projects.

He gained a professional qualification in Health and Safety in 2003, which has enabled the Company to uniquely combine H&S know-how with the technical aspects of earthing.

Neil endeavours to make himself available to customers directly should they have any issues they wish to discuss.

Paul Jones BEng PhD
Senior Engineer & Technical Manager

Paul has a degree and a PhD from Cardiff University. His research examined earth-impedance measurements at large area substations, and he developed the UK’s first earth-impedance measurement system.
He then completed a graduate training scheme with National Grid and furthered his experience in substation earthing.

Paul has been with ERM since formation and is our Technical Manager. His responsibilities include the design and computer simulation of earthing systems, and fault current distribution. Paul is the UK expert in the analysis of earth-impedance measurements, and has completed earthing-projects within the gas, petro-chemical and electrified-railway industries.

Matthew Taylor B.Eng PhD MIET C.Eng
Senior Engineer & General Manager

Matthew has been with ERM since 2005. He is our General Manager, with responsibilities including delivery of earthing assessments including the 5-year National Grid project, Company advancement, health and safety and quality management. A Chartered Engineer with a PhD and honours degree in Electrical Engineering from Cardiff University, Matthew has over 15 years experience across a diverse range of electrical earthing projects and is the UK expert in soil resistivity analysis for electrical earthing applications.

Matthew recently contributed to EN 50522 "Earthing of Power Installations exceeding 1kV a.c" and has previously published research on the earthing of transmission lines and mobile phone base stations and conducted research for the ENA ER G78 OSG working group.

Robert Knott B.Eng
Project Engineer

Robert completed a four year advanced modern apprenticeship with Westland Helicopters Ltd 2001-2005 gaining ONC and HNC qualifications in electronic engineering. He then obtained degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Cardiff University, graduating in 2008.

Robert joined ERM in June 2008 and is now a valuable member of the Engineering Team, assisting with computer modelling of earthing systems under fault conditions, interpretation of site measurements and engineering reports.

Robert's specialist area of interest is lightning protection, applying the requirements of recent British Standard 62305 to complex installations.
