System Analysis
Analysis of the performance of an earthing system is carried out using a combination of site measurements and desktop modelling to produce, for example, Rise of Earth Potential contour plots.
We recognise that the resources devoted to modelling and measurement should be commensurate with risk. For example, an initial assessment of a site in a densely populated area compared with a rural area would indicate the need for greater accuracy of analysis at the former due to the much greater potential risk levels.
In depth analysis may be used to engineer efficient placement of electrodes to reduce the impact of Rise Of Earth Potential at particular locations around a substation site. To carry out such analysis, ERM use sophisticated software tools which allow us to produce two or three dimensional plots of voltages and currents within and around an earthing system.
