Testing and Measurement
Safety is our first priority when carrying out measurements on earthing systems, where hazards can be significant. Understanding these hazards is the key to ensuring the safety of both those involved in testing and others who may be affected by the work.
ERM’s skilled team of dedicated site technicians are experienced in carrying out work on earthing systems and fully appreciate the hazards which they may and do encounter. Where there is any doubt about how to handle a new situation, support is obtained from a member of our professional team.
All work is supported by site specific risk assessments and method statements. These are not just in order to satisfy client or legal requirements but as a means of making sure our staff make safety the focus of their work.
ERM can carry out the following measurements and services (Note this list is not exhaustive):
- Overall resistance and 50Hz impedance to earth (Fall of potential technique)
- Soil resistivity (Wenner soundings)
- Electrode or electrode group resistance to earth
- Tower line chain impedance
- Substation plant earthing survey
- Fence earthing survey
- Earthing system continuity and integrity survey
- Touch, step and transfer voltages
- Earth conductor location
- Third-party impact survey
